Amidst Extradition Uncertainty, Do Kwon Faces House Arrest in Legal Turmoil

Is Do Kwon’s string of legal issues never-ending? The co-founder of Terraform Labs, Do Kwon, has been ordered to switch from incarceration to house arrest in the latest court ruling, as his trial in the U.S. is pending and the extradition deal has not yet been legally cleared and confirmed.

House Arrest and Travel Restrictions
The legal troubles for Do Kwon, co-founder of TerraUSD, started with the devastating collapse of TerraUSD, resulting in a massive loss of $40 billion.

On March 22nd, the Montenegrin Supreme Court ordered Kwon to be placed under house arrest, relieving him from his jail time. However, in addition to house arrest, the court also imposed passport detention and travel restrictions on Kwon, effectively confining him within the borders of Montenegro.

Recently, the Montenegro Supreme Prosecutor questioned the authority of the High Court to approve the extradition request of Do Kwon to the U.S., as the lower court had overstepped its boundaries. As a result, the Supreme Court intervened and halted the extradition process.

According to local reports, the Council of the Supreme Court, headed by Judge Milenka Seka Žižić and consisting of judges Ana Vuković, Zoran Šćepanović, Dr. Vesna Vučković, and Seka Piletić, implemented this decision by referring to Article 440, paragraph 4 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This article states that “the Supreme Court, after considering the content of the request for legal protection, may decide to postpone or suspend the execution of a final court decision.”

As Do Kwon navigates the complexities of the legal landscape, his transition to house arrest is a significant moment in his tumultuous journey. While uncertainties still remain, this respite provides some stability amidst the turbulent waters of extradition and legal complexities.
