Carole House Returns as Special Advisor for Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Policy Under Biden Administration, Signaling Potential Shift in Crypto Policy

Carole House, a prominent figure in shaping President Biden’s executive order on digital assets, has been reappointed as the Special Advisor for Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Policy, following her previous role as the National Security Council’s Director of Cybersecurity and Secure Digital Innovation from April 2021 to June 2022. Her expertise played a crucial role in formulating the regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies outlined in the 2022 executive order.

House’s return to the White House National Security Council, announced on June 24, 2024, has sparked speculation about potential changes in the US crypto policy under the Biden administration. This move suggests a shift towards a more proactive and less combative approach to crypto regulation, especially significant in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.

As the 2024 election approaches, the topic of crypto has gained traction in the political sphere. President Joe Biden is slated to engage in a debate with Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump on June 27, with the possibility of crypto being a point of discussion. Trump, amidst legal challenges, has been receiving crypto donations and has pledged to support the crypto industry if re-elected. Despite returning a $2-million Bitcoin donation due to legal restrictions, his campaign enjoys strong support from crypto leaders such as the Winklevoss twins.

With Carole House’s re-emergence in the Biden administration, there is potential for a significant shift in US crypto policy. Coupled with the increasing relevance of digital assets in the political landscape, the administration’s stance on cryptocurrency may evolve to become more proactive and supportive as the election season progresses.
