Metaplanet’s Audacious Strategy
Metaplanet Inc. declared that, following a decision made by its Board of Directors on February 10, 2025, it will be issuing its 6th Series of Ordinary Bonds to EVO FUND. This move aims to raise funds for the purpose of buying Bitcoin, expanding on their previously outlined plans in their January 2025 announcement. The company intends to utilize the proceeds from these stock rights to repay the bonds when they mature.
Notably, the total value of the bond issuance is JPY 4,000,000,000 (4 billion yen). These bonds will not accrue any interest, which means bondholders will not receive periodic payments on the bond’s value. This is part of their audacious strategy to increase their cryptocurrency investments.
Metaplanet’s Goal: Accumulating 21,000 BTC
Metaplanet recently disclosed its financial results for 2024, revealing an unrealized gain of about $36 million from holding 1,761 BTC, which were acquired for $137 million.
Furthermore, Metaplanet had recently announced its plans to accumulate 10,000 bitcoin (BTC) by the end of 2025 and 21,000 bitcoin by the end of 2026. Dylan LeClair, Director of Bitcoin Strategy at Metaplanet, emphasized: “Bitcoin is not just an asset; it’s the exit strategy. We’re here to accumulate and lead, not sell.”
